The Parliament of Victoria

Parliament House is located at Spring Street, Melbourne. Construction begun in 1856 but to this day the building remains unfinished. Currently, the front steps of Parliament are being repaired. For historical information on the Parliament building click here.

The Victorian Parliament is made up of two Houses, the Legislative Assembly where 88 elected Members sit and the Legislative Council where 40 elected Members sit. Details on all of the Victorian Members of Parliament can be found on the Parliament of Victoria website.

A Bill can be introduced in either House of Parliament but must be passed by both Houses before it can become a law. Once a Bill has been passed by both Houses it is presented to the Governor of Victoria for Royal Assent. To find out more about how a law is made click here.
